KBB TV Episode 9 - Series 1

In this episode, we focus on some interesting business technology solutions.

In the first segment, Kochie returns to meet Matt Ward at Honest to Goodness, a natural and organic food wholesaler. Matt has been having trouble with his old accounting software and wanted to upgrade to a system that could help him better manage his inventory.

His preference was to not re-invent the wheel, by getting someone to write him some bespoke software or to upgrade to a more sophisticated system offered by "big business" suppliers, but to find an "off-the-shelf" solution that would be easy for him to implement and use in the business. The solution: Quickbooks and a specialist inventory plug-in from a third party supplier he found through the Quicken website. As Matt explains, there are a host of specialist add-ons for Quickbooks and other software programmes that can meet your particular needs straight off the shelf. A very useful tip.

In segment two, we meet Tim Fisher, the director of a contract logistics trucking company based in Brisbane. The business, Tim Fisher Transport, contracts out trucks and drivers to a number clients in the white-goods field. With drivers working out of a number of sites, it was time-consuming to collect time-sheets and difficult to ensure that the fleet was running efficiently. The solution: Xora GPS Time Track solution from Telstra. This solution allows Tim to allocate jobs directly to his drivers' PDAs, manage time-sheets and billing, etc. Tim has found that the software has really helped his business grow and has allowed him to save money on his back-office operations, increase his fleet's efficiency and given him the tools to compete head-on with much larger competitors.

In segment three, we touch on the most important, but all too often neglected, topic of data back-up. Many business owners have discovered too late how important backing up your vital business information is. The good news is that backing up data is now really simple and very cost efficient. To find out more, Gadget Guy Pete Blasina visits Boris Kotevski and Nick Roche from Computer Troubleshooters.

Buying a new mobile handset or PDA can be a daunting task. You read the reviews, ask friends for their opinion but still you're confused. Now, Telstra have a solution: visit their new T[life] concept store. In this segment, we send Pete Blasina in to check out T[life] where he discovers a wide range of handsets and other solutions on display with the added advantage that they are all fully operational so you can really test them out to make sure they meet your exact requirements.
